The Audi R8 5.2 FSI quattro delivers 391 lb-ft of torque and achieves a 0-60 mph time of just 3.7 seconds.

Anticipation has been building for the U.S. introduction of the R8 V10. The two winning bids raised a combined $850,000 for the charity, with the top bidder paying a record $500,000 for the new 2010 R8 V10, the highest amount ever paid for a new Audi vehicle in the U.S.

Since its U.S. launch in September 2007, demand has remained strong for the V8-powered R8 4.2 FSI quattro featuring 420 hp and 317 lb-ft of torque. The hand-assembled R8 V10, developed by the Audi high-performance division, quattro GmbH, receives unique exterior features as standard equipment. “The R8 is a proven worldwide success story for Audi,” said Johan de Nysschen, President, Audi of America. “The positive effects of the vehicle on dealers, customers, and Audi fans alike have exceeded all expectations. The addition of the V10-powered R8 5.2 FSI quattro adds further equity into the already sought-after R8 nameplate and the Audi brand.”

The R8 is one of four Audi models currently built with the revolutionary ASF® chassis, a technology that Audi has mastered in more than a decade of experience. ASF is customized by model, including its application with the A8 and TT Coupe and Roadster models. The framework of an ASF body consists of extruded aluminum sections and pressure castings. The aluminum chassis and sheet metal are just as strong as steel, but lighter to boost performance and efficiency. This frame carries the sheet aluminum elements, for example the roof panel, which are rigidly connected to it and help to withstand loads on the body. The elements of ASF are varied in shape and cross-section, depending on the tasks they have to perform. Like the bones of a human skeleton, they combine optimal function with low weight. The ASF application on the Audi R8 offers extremely high torsional rigidity, light weight and high strength for optimal performance characteristics.

All R8 models are produced in Neckarsulm, Baden Württemberg, Germany along with the aluminum A8 model. Audi is continuing to shape the future in lightweight design and elsewhere too. Inaugurated in 1994, the Aluminum and Lightweight Design Center in Neckarsulm, Germany employs more than 120 specialists to work on new joining techniques, body structures, materials and construction techniques. They also look into the use of high-strength and ultra-high-strength grades of steel. In the area of fiber composites, Audi also acts as an innovative pioneer and trend-setter by leveraging its significant racetrack experience and success to test advanced component concepts under extreme conditions prior to implementation on its road vehicles.

Audi expects to release 2010 pricing and model year changes for the remainder of its lineup within the next few weeks.

The R8 5.2 FSI wins the title for production supercars. The S5 Cabriolet, the RS 6, the S4 Avant, and the Q7 V12 TDI each placed in the top five in their respective classes. The prizes awarded by a jury from the Auto Bild SportsCars monthly were presented last evening at the Essen Motor Show.

With 650 invited guests looking on, Michael-Julius Renz, Head of Sales Germany at AUDI AG, accepted the prize for the Audi TT RS; Werner Frowein, Managing Director of quattro GmbH, accepted the award for the Audi R8 5.2 FSI.

The title “Sports Car of the Year” is one of the most sought-after prizes in the German automobile industry. 51,637 readers of the magazine took part in the voting this year. Sports cars that had previously proven their worth in more than 300 tests and road reports were nominated in eight classes, which were further broken down into Tuning and Production. Besides the two group winners, four other Audi models placed in the top five in their respective classes: the S5 Cabriolet in the class “Production Convertible/Roadster”; the RS 6 in “Production Sedan”; the S4 Avant in “Production Station Wagon”; and the Q7 V12 TDI in the category “Production SUV.”

The panel of experts at Auto Bild SportsCars only crowns pure-blooded sports cars as “Sports Car of the Year.” In conjunction with TÜV Rheinland (Rhineland Inspection Authority), the magazine’s jurors regularly conduct exacting road tests to thoroughly assess the latest sports cars.

The Audi TT RS Coupé is powered by a 2.5-liter turbocharged engine with gasoline direct injection that generates a power output of 250 kW (340 hp) and a torque of 450 Nm (331.9 lb-ft). The five-cylinder engine enables the TT RS to perform extraordinary feats. In conjunction with quattro permanent all-wheel drive and a high-performance chassis, the engine makes the compact Audi TT RS an exceptional sports car.

Generating 386 kW (525 hp) and 530 Nm (390.91 lb-ft) of torque, the 5.2-liter, ten-cylinder engine delivers breathtaking performance. Superior Audi technologies such as quattro all-wheel drive, the lightweight aluminum chassis featuring Audi Space Frame construction, the innovative all-LED headlights and the distinctive design put the R8 5.2 FSI in the pole position in its competitive field.

Audi Delivers first RWD R8 LMS 500HP+ to Customer

The first example of Audi's track-only R8 LMS with chassis number '101' has been delivered to its lucky owner in Italy. Overall, twelve units of the 500hp+GT3 sports car will be delivered during the forthcoming weeks to six customer teams that plan to race in five European GT3 championships as well as in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring for which Audi Sport has developed an endurance version of the R8 LMS

The R8 racer uses a 5.2-liter V10 engine producing over 500-horsepower and more than 500Nm of torque.
